QUAKE GLOBAL EXPANDS ITS PRODUCT LINE TO INCLUDE INMARSAT D+ MODEMS
SAN DIEGO – June 1, 2005 - Quake Global, Inc., a leading manufacturer of satellite modems and other communications devices used in asset tracking and monitoring, and Satamatics, the INMARSAT D+ service provider with ubiquitous coverage across the world’s continents and oceans have announced a strategic alliance.
This alliance offers customers the most affordable global tracking and monitoring service for fixed-site and mobile assets taking full advantage of the broad communications expertise, financial stability and global coverage of the Inmarsat D+ network. Effective immediately QUAKE® has expanded its line of wireless communications devices to include QUAKE’s own brand of modems that utilize the INMARSAT D+ geo-stationary satellite system. This addition to QUAKE’s product line complements QUAKE’s existing wireless communications products, which include satellite modems utilizing low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellites, CDMA and GSM terrestrial systems.
QUAKE’s President and CEO, Polina Braunstein, said that, “The addition of INMARSAT D+ modems to our product line will allow QUAKE to supply wireless communications products to an even broader group of customers. The use of Inmarsat D+ means we are offering a truly global hardware over the INMARSAT network, a reliable and widely recognized 20-year old satellite service provider. There are certain applications where military and civilian customers need real-time two-way communications anywhere in the world, and the INMARSAT satellites provide this capability. Now, when a customer approaches QUAKE seeking a monitoring solution we will have a greater ability to meet that customer’s specific needs.”
Peter Chisholm, CEO of Satamatics Worldwide, commented on the alliance: “Quake’s key strength of designing and producing a reliable cost-effective satellite modem will greatly enhance Satamatics’ ability to approach markets traditionally utilizing terrestrial and other satellite based systems. The rapid growth of Satamatics is due to the reliability, capacity and technical capabilities of our worldwide network, couple this with a world class modem manufacturer such as Quake and its easy to see the advantages this will bring to our present and future customers.”
INMARSAT D+ provides seamless coverage throughout the world, and operates through an international network of satellite gateways and data handling centers owned and operated by Satamatics. The system operates completely independently of terrestrial-based infrastructures, such as cell-phone or radio networks, thus avoiding their limitations of range or availability. Currently, the D+ system is widely used in the homeland defense, maritime, and transport security tracking and monitoring applications. It is now deployed throughout the world for tracking the position and security status of ships, vehicles, cargoes, and personnel – both civil and military. It is also being deployed for micro-telemetry applications in the oil & gas, utilities, and environmental monitoring sectors.
